V.O.S has been in the news pretty frequently this past few days but for issues unrelated to their music.

VOS

It was revealed last week that 3 member group, V.O.S (Voice of Soul) comprising of Choi Hyun Joon, Park Ji Hun and Kim Kyung Rok would not be renewing their contract with Star Empire and has now signed on with another company, ShinSaeng Management. The official statement was that V.O.S decided to not renew their contract because of differing views in music style and future plans.

The split between group and company thus appeared to be on good terms. But just 2 days later, it was sensationally revealed by Park Ji Hun himself in a phone interview that he was a father of a 4 year old son, will be expecting a 2nd child in August and is planning to finally get married at the end of the year. Park Ji Hun did not imply explicitly that Star Empire was behind the whole issue of telling him to concel all these but obviously, he couldn’t take it longer and wanted to have a normal life.

On the same day, Star Empire announced that they couldn’t understand the reasons behind V.O.S suddenly deciding not to renew their contract and would prohibit them (V.O.S) from using the group’s name, V.O.S in future. V.O.S was originally set to renew their contract with Star Empire in July but opted not to despite negotiations going well. Star Empire claimed that that another company (ShinSaeng Management) had jumped in with a better contract offer and thus V.O.S decided to sign with them instead.

But one problem here is that the name V.O.S is copyrighted and belongs to Star Empire, which includes usage, commercial, etc rights. If Choi Hyun Joon, Park Ji Hun and Kim Kyung Rok are going to continue using the name V.O.S in future for performances, they are liable to be sued by Star Empire. ShinSaeng Management has tried to contact Star Empire about this, hoping to transfer the rights over, so that V.O.S can continue to perform under this name. But Star Empire has maintained that it’s not going to do so, while expressing huge disappointment over V.O.S’s actions.

A Star Empire spokesperson added that the V.O.S members had already expressed that it’s no big deal even if they can’t use the group name in future when they gave up on renewing their contracts. Thus, Star Empire will not be entertaining any requests from ShinSaeng Management about the name rights ownership transfer.

So did the split between Star Empire and V.O.S really happen because of differences in music style or was it because they couldn’t come to terms with Park Ji Hun wanting to reveal that he was a father or was it really because of money? Regardless, we hope that V.O.S will get more freedom under ShinSaeng Management and make even better music. And also hoping that they can still use their name, V.O.S of course.

3-member group V.O.S leader Park JiHeon’s 4 year-old son ‘b*tchan’ photos revealed!

VOS

Park JiHeon revealed the photos of his son and also the love story of him and his wife, “Both of us were born in DaeJeon. My wife was studying in the school next to mine in ShinIl Girls’ High and we met through a friend when we were in high school year 3. And we were each other’s first love.”

He continued, “When I was approaching the coming of age, I wanted to do music and my wife has also helped me out a lot. But I went to the army when I was 22.”

“After I got out of army, I wanted to pursue the singing career again. I will never forget how my wife has always been supportive towards my goals and decisions. But in the end when I really debuted as a singer, our marriage could not take place.”

He said, “It was painful not to be able to tell everyone about our son. It was tiring to hold back the freedom of my family for the job as a singer. When the news of our 2nd child came, I was prepared to tell everyone about my family.”

He ended, “I hope it will not be the case that our 2nd child to arrive in August will not get any blessings. And we thank all the fans who have been so supportaive to our family.”

Park Jihun met his wife during the third year of middle school and started off as pen pals. Their parents did oppose of them once but after receiving the blessing of both families, the two had a normal plan to get married but because of Park Jihun’s debut to be a singer, the wedding had to be postponed.

VOS

During October of 2005, after finding out about his wife’s pregnancy, the elders wished for the family to stay together and got them a single room home in Hapjungdong, Seoul. Park Jihun’s mother who lived in Daejun didn’t wish for this event to affect his career so she came to live with the family and took care of the wife.

During June of 2006, the family welcomed a new born son into the family and named his son b*tchan, holding the meaning of “Shine Brilliantly.” But during this time, Park Jihun was busy doing activities and afraid that his company and V.O.S might become a target, therefore he had to hide the truth.

Because of her husband’s busy schedule, Seo Myungsun had to be an unwedded mother. Other than having to sign a marriage registration, the two had to sign son b*tchan’s birth report before passing Myungsun’s entry into the family. The child who recently turned four started attending a playschool since June. At the school there was an event where parents were to attend but because Myungsun was labeled an unmarried mother, he could not participate at the event.

“I couldn’t easily confess the truth due to my career as a singer and the fact someone could target my company and group. But as b*tchan’s father, I wanted to be supporting husband. I met a new company who warmly embraced me when I revealed my story. They blessed my scared heart and gave me confidence. That is the reason why I am strongly revealing the truth.”

“I want to reveal the truth to b*tchan’s friends that he indeed does have a father and I want to dress the woman who has waited for me for so long in a wedding dress so I could stop sinning.”

Group V.O.S will officially begin their overseas promotion in China with a fan meeting on June 12th and concert at ‘Yun-gil College’ on the 13th.

VOS

This will be the trio’s first overseas concert after their showcase in Shanghai two years ago. For the upcoming concert, V.O.S will perform their new track, ‘In Trouble’ as well as 15 other songs. Already, The trio has performed at over 100 concerts in Korea and proved their staying power and talent. So, winning over the hearts of those in China shouldn’t be so big of a stretch. After their promotional activities in China are over, the group plans on holding another concert in Japan some time in August.

V.O.S’s new track, ‘In Trouble’ has garnered a lot of attention since the day it was released (and is actually a great track to sing at the norae-bang). Here’s a recent clip of the boys singing ‘In Trouble’ at Sweet Sorrow’s Ten Ten Club radio program. Choi Hyun-joon never fails to impress with his vocals and it’s amazing how Park Ji-hun can hit those high notes (around the 2:57 mark).
